Our Story

Showcasing Maryland-Made

First published in 2014, BuyMarylandDirectory.com was – and is – the only showcase for products made throughout Maryland by different types of producers –  manufacturers, makers, artists, crafts persons, and agribusinesses. 

The Project Resource Group’s Maryland With Pride (TPRG’s MWP) began this shopping venture under a common mission with the Regional Manufacturing Institute of Maryland (RMI) and the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) Main Street Maryland Program: To make it easy for shoppers to locate Maryland-made products featured by their organizations and others across the State. 

This enthusiastic trio of Maryland-made product advocates reunited in 2024 to infuse an upgraded Buy Maryland Directory with more picturesque and interactive navigations; website, social media, and QR code enabled listings; and updated market analytics.

We Promote Maryland-Brand Producers & Sellers

Maryland With Pride members report sales across the state and the nation. In addition to everyday purchases…gifts, food, and beverages to celebrate personal and corporate special occasions…there’s interest from tourists who want Maryland-made souvenirs…Maryland snowbirds…college students…retirees…and others living out-of-state who crave items that have the taste and feel of home.

Participating producers and sellers in Maryland With Pride benefit from social media posts, print and broadcast media opportunities, shopping guide inclusion, email notices, gift basket bundling, events, and more.

Our affiliations with trade groups such as the Maryland Economic Development Association and the Maryland Chamber of Commerce Federation, and with subject matter experts lend a voice in discussions on policies, regulations, and trends that impact business and industry growth.

Operations, Philosophies & the Bottom Line

Operated by The Project Resource Group’s Chris Plater, Maryland With Pride raises awareness of the strength and variety of Maryland-made products and supports “Buy Maryland, Buy Local, Buy USA.” 

Chris and her team maintain the directory year-round, featuring listings for producers and sellers of Maryland-made consumer goods across the state. Teamwork on projects and events over the years inspired RMI President Mike Galiazzo to coin the slogan, Make It To Main Street, in support of MWP’s and RMI’s work with DHCD’s Main Street Maryland Program to launch the directory. 

A State of Maryland commerce department retiree, Chris describes the collaboration as a business, economic, and community development adventure resting on the producer industry’s multiplier effect on the Gross Domestic Product. Bottom Line, “When Shoppers in Maryland and beyond go into a store or online for purchases, we want them to be aware that Maryland brands help employ family members and friends.”
